Catch them Young: Promoting Entrepreneurship as a Career Choice

There is growing recognition of entrepreneurship as an instrument for economic growth. Youth entrepreneurship development is a proven strategy that positively impacts the lives of young people. However entrepreneurship is hardly considered as a first choice for young people in eastern India. Taking this into consideration U.S. Consulate, Kolkata in collaboration with Contact Base (banglanatak dot com) has taken the initiative “Catch them Young”.

The initiative Catch them Young aims to reach out to 100,000 youth in Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal with a message ‘to start your business when you are still in college’. Objective of the program is to promote entrepreneurship as a career and life choice for youth. Networking meet, Idea workshops, Business skill development, Idea contest, B-plan tutorials and Boot camp are some of the key elements of this program.

The Campus Ambassador campaign, a part of the Catch them Young initiative will be looking for motivated college students to lead the initiative “Catch them Young” in their respective institutes.

The ambassadors will be selected after their online registration.  Selected candidates will have an opportunity to learn from experienced faculty, experts, various facets of starting a business, financial and market knowledge. The ambassadors will hold college meets to influence fellow students to submit business ideas for the “Catch them Young” Contest. All the campus ambassadors will be awarded a certificate on completion of the campaign. There will be around 50 ambassadors from 25 colleges of Kolkata, Patna and Ranchi with focus on women participation

Business idea contest will open in mid of 2019 where the students can send in their innovative ideas.  Selected candidates will get an opportunity to attend a boot camp followed by a grand finale where an eminent jury will select few ideas for incubation support.
