Heritage-sensitive Intellectual Property & Marketing Strategies (HIPAMS)

HIPAMS or ‘Heritage-sensitive Intellectual Property & Marketing Strategies’, an initiative of Coventry University & banglanatak dot com, aims to develop ‘heritage-sensitive’ IP protection & marketing strategies for the rural artists’ communities in India. This is supported by British Academy. Patachitra artists of Pingla, Purulia Chau artists and Baul-Fakiri artists of Nadia and Birbhum from West Bengal and Patachitra artists of Raghurajpur and Mayurbhanj Chau artists from Odisha are participating in this project as co-creators. HIPAMS would contribute to safeguarding and on-going viability of these traditional art forms.

IP specialists Dr. Charlotte Waelde from UK and Dr. Benedetta Ubertazzi from Italy, ICH expert Dr. Harriet Deacon from UK and expert of heritage marketing Dr. Diego Rinello from France along with Contact Base team members have visited West Bengal and Odisha from 4 – 10 December, 2018. They organized workshops with all the six artists’ communities to know about their community, art form and market to develop heritage-sensitive intellectual property (IP) and marketing strategies. They will apply and test the strategies with the help of community artists in the coming period.
