Round Table on Combating Violent Extremism & Women’s Role

A Round Table on ‘Women, Peace and Security’, was organized in Kolkata in association with the US Consulate General, Kolkata, in the context of growing violent extremism and its manifestations on women, with organizations from India, Nepal, Bangladesh and Pakistan, to strengthen the networks of cooperation for meaningfully contributing to address the issue.

Altogether 30 delegates from Kolkata, New Delhi, Ranchi, Imphal, Guwahati, Kathmandu and Dhaka participated in the Round Table. There was also a video conference with Pakistan. The participants strived to comprehend the role women can play in countering violent extremism (CVE), explore tools and approaches being used to prevent radicalization and knowledge-sharing to develop gender responsive CVE strategies.

During the discussions, the participants shared from their experiences the factors behind radicalization and violent extremism and their impact on women. They also identified the gaps in current policies and mechanisms to counter violent extremism and shared their experiences in addressing the challenges on the ground.
