Ours is a turbo charged work environment where passion runs high. We are an equal opportunity workplace and summarily apolitical. Sabai Products: From Grass to Green Skill

Sabai grass (scientific name Eulaliapsis binata, family Poaceae), is a perennial plant grown in abundance in many regions including India. It is thin and its leaves possess high quality fibre. In West Bengal, it is found in the districts of Paschim Medinipur, Bankura and Purulia. It is a traditional source of livelihood for the forest fringe communities of the state. Ropes made using the grass are sold in the local market for a variety of purposes for meager sums.

With the philosophy of leveraging this basic skill to enhance market and resultant income for the marginalized communities, we are working with around 2,800 people traditionally involved with Sabai grass based crafts in the three districts with support from West Bengal Khadi & Village Industries Board to enhance their skills, introduce them to new designs and products to further develop the craft and its market potential thereby helping to increase their income.

While the artists of Paschim Medinipur make utility items like bags, boxes, floor mats, hot pots, trays and water bottle holders etc., the artists of Bankura and Purulia specialize in making products like flower and fruit vases, animal figures, trays and dustbins.

With a round of basic skill development training done for all artists under master trainers, the next step is advanced training for product development across all three districts.
