Y4BIZ – Identifying & Supporting Promising Young Entrepreneurs

Y4BIZ: Identifying & Supporting Promising Young Entrepreneurs

Y4BIZ or Youth for Business was an initiative undertaken by us in association with the U.S. Consulate General Kolkata to identify 50 young emerging and early stage entrepreneurs in eastern India, focusing on Assam, Bihar, Jharkhand and West Bengal.
Y4BIZ endeavored to support such entrepreneurs to transform their business ideas from initial stage to a sustainable and scalable business model. After a multistage screening process to identify participants that began in the winter of 2017, there was an online capacity building program run by the IC Institute, University of Texas, Austin, U.S. Mentoring for development of sustainable business plans was the next part of the engagement and continued for six months. It included a boot camp in Kolkata.
Finally, the best business ideas were showcased before industry leaders, investors and policy makers. All the participants are now connected through the Y4BIZ network that aims to promote entrepreneurship and develop a supporting network for youngsters with business ideas.
Altogether 15 participants from the boot camp were selected for the Y4BIZ Finale on 7th September, 2018, at the American Center in Kolkata. They presented their ideas before a jury comprising eminent investors, academics, incubators and business heads. Finally, the Top 4 were awarded in four categories — Promise, Innovation, Impact and Jury’s Choice.
